Japan earthquake: cost of insured losses

The General Insurance Association of Japan (GIAJ) has published the latest figures relating to the damage caused by the earthquake that struck central Japan on 1 January 2024.

As at 31 May 2024, local insurers had settled 103 439 claims for a total of 91 billion JPY (579.8 million USD).

This amount is expected to rise further as insurance companies have accepted 150 567 claims, 145 899 of which are considered as completed investigations.
