California in the grip of wildfires
This year's fire season in California got off to an early start. Since 15 June 2024, the West Coast State has been experiencing a series of wildfires, the largest of which is the "Post Fire".
In just a few days, the flames, fueled by hot weather and strong winds, have burned more than 8 000 hectares. Nearly 1 200 people were evacuated from their homes.
Climatologists are warning of a sweltering summer and an active fire season, due to the unusually early heat waves.
Every summer, California has to deal with megafires, exacerbated by global warming.
