From autumn 2018, 100% ecological cargo ships, called "Tesla boats", designed for the transport of containers, will be officially functional. The first copies will be launched in August 2018 and will circulate in the ports of Antwerp (Belgium), Rotterdam and Amsterdam (Netherlands).
According to the Dutch company Port Liner, the initiator of this project, there are 15 electric boats still under construction. Compared to conventional container ships, silent "green" cargoes, with zero emissions of greenhouse gases, will bring considerable environmental benefits. They will work with batteries powered by solar and wind energy.
The launch of these new "green" cargo ships foreshadows a revolution for maritime transport, considered as one of the most polluting sectors of the globe.
