Man fakes his own death to benefit from insurance

An American man was accused of premeditating his own disappearance with the aid and of his ex-wife. He aimed at receiving a 2 million USD life insurance premium, a policy which he had underwritten shortly before the fraud.

The man faked his death in Moldova. His supposed body could be identified by means of a passport found on the corpse. Unfortunately for the fraudulent, an individual alerted the local police and gave them the details of the trickery.

The unlucky man was arrested and extradited to the United States where he might face up to forty months of imprisonment. As for his ex-wife, she was sentenced to three years in jail.

The investigators have reasons to believe the two people did not act alone and that they were assisted by the local authorities and doctors.
