On November 25, 2019, Dresden Green Vault Museum known as Grünes Gewölbe in Germany, was burgled. Criminals fled after the robbery of three diamond jewellery sets dating back to the 18th century. The loss is estimated at nearly 1 billion EUR (1.1 billion USD).
The stolen items are not insured. Indeed, the insurance of public museums has been a difficult task as its cost far exceeds that of the risk. The State prefers to be its own insurer when it comes to museums or historical monuments. It should be noted, however, that an insurance policy is often underwritten for the transportation of works of art.
