Since the end of July 2024, all 23 provinces of Chad have been affected by severe weather conditions and flooding, according to a recent report by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
As at 3 September 2024, 341 people had lost their lives and almost 1.5 million were affected by the disaster.
The worst-affected regions are Lac, Mayo-Kebbi, Mandoul, Tandjilé and Batha.
To support the victims, the Chadian government and the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) are planning to allocate 580 million FCFA (975 000 USD) and 8 million USD respectively.
Other African countries, including Niger and South Sudan, have also been experiencing torrential rains since the beginning of the summer.
