According to Sigma's latest survey, 137 natural catastrophes and 174 technical catastrophes occurred in 2008. The overall damage amounts to 269 billion USD, 52.2 billion USD of which were covered by insurers. Natural catastrophes alone have cost the insurers 44. 7 billion USD.
