Insurance: fewer M&A transactionsAccording to Clyde & Co, 106 mergers and acquisitions (M&A) were carried out by the insurance market in the first half of 2024. This figure is down 40% compared to the same period in 2023.

The high interest rate environment, persistent inflation, high borrowing costs and geopolitical uncertainties are some of the factors behind this historic decline.

Still according to the Clyde & Co study, Brookfield Reinsurance's acquisition of American Equity Investment Life Holding Company (AEL) for 3.587 billion USD is considered the largest transaction in the first six months of 2024.

By region, the Americas recorded the highest number of transactions (44). They are followed by Europe (31), Asia Pacific (23) and the Middle East and Africa (8).
