In order to cover earthquake risk in Japan, the German reinsurer Munich Re has set up, on behalf of the Japanese insurance mutual Zenkyoren, a provision of 300 million USD on the capital markets. The move is designed to provide Zenkyoren with additional cover in case a severe event occurs.
