Building banned in six high-risk zones in Algeria

natural disastersThe Algerian Government has published new regulations for the prevention, intervention and reduction of catastrophe risks.

The law, published in the Official Gazette on 18 March 2024, prohibits construction in six zones at risk of natural and industrial disasters. These include seismic fault zones deemed active, geologically hazardous land, safety perimeters of industrial zones and flood-prone land.

Businesses and individuals found in breach of the new law will face stiff penalties: 3 to 5 years' imprisonment, in addition to a 600 000 DZD (4 421 USD) fine.
