A new law on road safety has been adopted by Algerian deputies. The new texts provide for the introduction of a demerit point permit, the institution of probationary licenses and harsher penalties and fines.
It is worth noting that the Algerian car fleet has grown from 3 million vehicles in 2006 to 5.5 million in September 2009.
