The southeastern region of South Korea has been battling several forest fires since 21 March 2025, fueled by strong winds and dry weather.
Over 17 000 hectares have been burnt, including a Buddhist temple that dates back over 1 000 years.
As of 26 March 2025, 24 people had died and 12 were seriously injured. Thousands of people had to be evacuated.
The South Korean government has raised the alert level to its maximum.
More than 6 700 firefighters are still actively working to contain the blaze.
