Continental Re: winners of the Pan-African Insurance and Reinsurance Journalism Awards

Continental Re held the 9^th Pan-African Insurance and Reinsurance Journalism Awards ceremony in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, on 12 April 2024.

The winners were selected from 121 candidates from 18 African countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Malawi, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The 2 000 USD grand prize was awarded to Nike Popoola, journalist with Punch Newspaper (Nigeria) for her article: "After mobile phone adoption challenges, underwriters break barriers with innovations".

In addition to the grand prize, cash prizes in the amount of 1 500, 1 000 and 500 USD were respectively awarded to the winners, 1^st and 2^nd runners-up in the following categories:

• 2^nd runner-up: Afeez Hanafi, Nigeria and Samuel Sanya, Uganda

French category

• Winner: Mahamadi Sebogo, Burkina Faso
• 1^st runner-up: Oltas Yavis Teddy Goudalo, Benin
• 2^nd runner-up: Daouda Zongo, Burkina Faso

Arabic category

• Winner: Islam Abdelhameed Abdelmutlib Farahat, Egypt
• 1^st runner-up: Mohamed Hamdy Ahmed Mahmoud, Egypt
• 2^nd runner-up: El Hadi Issa, Egypt

The "Dr. Femi Oyetunji Future Talent" award went to Zimbabwean Taurai Craig Museka, an industry professional who runs an online insurance blog, for his article entitled "The role of trade credit insurers in optimizing the benefits of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA)".
