Canada ravaged by the most devastating fires in its history
For over a month now, Canada has been facing one of the worst series of fires in its history.
After the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan at the beginning of May 2023 and Nova Scotia at the end of May, Quebec City has been affected by unprecedented forest fires since the beginning of June.
The federal government estimates that 2 214 fires have already destroyed nearly 3.3 million hectares of land across the country. More than 120 000 people have had to abandon their homes, while a further 26 200 are being evacuated.
Smoke from the fires has traveled more than 800 kilometers south of Quebec City, reaching New York, which is now shrouded in a yellow-orange fog.
