Warren Buffet to step down as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway

Warren BuffettAt the age of 94, Warren Buffet has decided to step down as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway by the end of 2025. Nicknamed the “Oracle of Omaha”, W.Buffet has been at the head of the American conglomerate for 60 years.

The announcement was made on the sidelines of Berkshire Hathaway's annual general meeting, held on 3 May in Omaha, Nebraska.

The billionaire is leaving his place to Greg Abel, the ongoing vice-chairman of the group. Having being appointed as W. Buffet's successor in 2021, G. Abel, 62, runs currently all of the holding company's non-insurance operations. He will become CEO of Berkshire Hathaway on 1 January 2026 while W. Buffet will remain the group's board chairman.

Under Warren Buffet's leadership since 1965, Berkshire Hathaway has grown from a small bankrupt textile company to a large investment group valued today at more than 1 000 billion USD.
