On 9 September 2024, an ATR 42-500 belonging to Indonesian airline Trigana Air ran off the runway after a missed takeoff at Stevanus Rumbewas airport in Indonesia. The aircraft struck a wall and sustained extensive damage.
All 42 passengers and six crew members managed to evacuate the aircraft. 23 of the 48 people on board were injured. Three crew members were seriously injured and placed in intensive care.
These were the captain, the co-pilot and an engineer.
Local police have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
Since its creation in 1991, Trigana Air has experienced a total of 14 aircraft crashes, the deadliest of which occurred in 2015 when an ATR 42-300 crashed in Papua, Indonesia, causing 54 deaths.
