Swiss Re to be consulted for agricultural risk reinsurance in Ethiopia

Swiss Re has been approached by the Ethiopian authorities to consider a new agricultural insurance model. The purpose of this initiative is to manage climate-change-related risks.

With the expertise of the Swiss reinsurer, the most populous country in East Africa could consider agricultural risks coverage accessible to the greatest number.

Ethiopia wants to put an end with food insecurity affecting millions of small farmers who are periodically ruined by recurring droughts.

In 2016, a Swiss delegation will visit Ethiopia to develop a management plan for such risk.
