South African life insurers remain well capitalized despite record claims payments

According to the Association for Savings and Investment South Africa (ASISA), life insurers remain well capitalized in 2024, despite claims payments totaling 639 billion ZAR (33.3 billion USD). This was the highest amount ever paid out in a single year.

This sum includes claims paid under life, disability, critical illness, income protection and retirement annuity policies.
