Mutual insurance group Matmut has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with HSBC Continental Europe for the acquisition of 100% of its French subsidiary HSBC Assurance Vie. The transaction is valued at 925 million EUR (964.3 million USD).
Subject to the usual closing conditions, the transaction is expected to be finalized in the second half of 2025.
This deal is consistent with the British banking group HSBC's reorganization strategy aimed at refocusing its activities on high-growth markets.
As for Matmut, acquiring HSBC Assurance Vie (France) will allow it to expand into the savings and pensions sectors, as set out in its 2024-2026 strategic plan “Objectif: Impact!”.
