On 26 April 2025, a massive explosion ripped through the Shahid Rajaee port in Southern Iran, triggering a massive fire.
The provisional toll stands at 46 dead and over 1 000 injured.
Shahid Rajaee, Iran’s largest commercial port, is located over 1 000 kilometers south of the capital, Tehran, near the major port city of Bandar Abbas.
As of April 28, two days after the explosion, firefighters are still struggling to bring the blaze under control.
According to the port's customs authority, the blast likely originated from a fire in a storage area containing hazardous and chemical materials.
An investigation is underway to determine whether the fire was caused by negligence or deliberate action.
