The American Fortune magazine has released its 2025 edition of the Fortune Global 500, ranking the world’s largest companies by revenue for the 2024 fiscal year.
Apple, previously ranked seventh, dropped to eighth place, overtaken by UnitedHealth Group, the leading U.S. health insurance provider. This shift also impacted the Fortune 500 ranking of the largest U.S. companies, published in June 2025, where UnitedHealth climbed to third place, surpassing Apple.
The Fortune Global 500 is based on companies' revenues for the 2024 fiscal year. The 500 companies concerned had a combined turnover of 41.7 trillion USD in 2024, up 1.8% year-on-year.
The ranking continues to be dominated by the financial sector, followed by energy, automotive, technology, and healthcare. These sectors account for 60% of the companies in the ranking and 66% of total revenue.
The seven tech giants, that is Apple, Amazon, Alphabet, Microsoft, Meta, Nvidia, and Tesla, collectively generated 2 trillion USD in revenue.
