Brian Thompson, CEO of UnitedHealthcare, shot dead in downtown New York City

On Wednesday 4 December 2024, Brian Thompson, chief executive officer (CEO) of the health insurer UnitedHealthcare, a member of the UnitedHealth Group, was killed near his hotel in Manhattan, New York.

B. Thompson, 50, was shot several times with a silenced handgun. The man succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at the hospital.

After the shooting, the assailant fled on foot before taking an electric bike.

The suspect, still wanted, is the subject of an appeal for witnesses published by the authorities on social networks. A reward of up to 10 000 USD will be offered for any information regarding this murder.

According to the New York police, the attack was premeditated, planned and targeted.

The motive for the crime has bot been clarified yet. However, the victim's wife, Paulette Thompson, reportedly said, without giving details, that her husband had been threatened for lack of health coverage.
