African insurance market in 2021

According to a Swiss Re Institute report, the turnover of the African insurance sector reached 74.19 billion USD in 2021. This amount shows an increase of 19.89% compared to the 61.881 billion USD recorded in 2020.

South Africa maintains its position as the market leader with 51.215 billion USD, that is, 69.03% of the market share in 2021. It is followed by Morocco, Egypt and Kenya which respectively accounted for 7.2%, 3.79% and 3.26% of the total written premiums in Africa in 2021.
