According to AM Best, Axa is the world's first insurer in 2009

AM Best has released its annual insurers ranking based on the financial performance for the 2009. Axa (France) tops the list with 116.47 billion USD of net written premiums followed by Generali (Italy) 91.64 billion USD, Allianz (Germany) 86.04 billion USD, Japan Post Ins. (Japan) 81.02 billion USD and United Health Group (USA) 79.32 billion USD. Nine European companies are among the top 20 while six are American and 4 Japanese.
