Estimates of the October 25 earthquake revised downwards

AIR Worldwide, an American company specialized in earthquakes' modeling, has confirmed that the earthquake with the 7.7 magnitude on the Richter scale that struck the Mentawai Islands last October 25, will not affect insurers. The insurance penetration rate is low in this region despite the introduction in 2003 of the national pool Maipark. This pool has been established to cover the inhabitants against earthquakes, although the possession of an insurance policy is compulsory.
