Allianz half-year results up
Allianz, Europe's largest insurer in terms of premiums, generated a turnover of 73.5 billion EUR (83.5 billion USD) in the first half of 2019, up by 7.7%. Life and health activity increased by 9.3% while non-life insurance gained 6.7 points.
In the first half of 2019, the net result was 4.316 billion EUR (4.905 billion USD) compared to 4.025 billion EUR (4.688 billion USD) a year earlier, an improvement of 7.2%. The group thus exceeds its half-yearly targets and confirms its annual forecasts.
For the second quarter alone, from April to June, the German group's net profit jumped by 13.5%. This performance is mainly due to an exceptional gain in the life class of business.
The combined ratio of non-life insurance falls to 94% thanks to the decrease in the natural disasters in the first half of 2019, 0.4 points better than in 2018.
