Since 8 September 2024, Los Angeles has been threatened by three violent wildfires that are still out of control.
The Bridge Fire, which broke out near the Californian city, destroyed more than 30 homes and cabins and around 20 000 hectares of land in 24 hours. Local authorities have ordered residents to evacuate their homes.
The Line Fire north of Los Angeles damaged 14 000 hectares of land. Several roads were also blocked.
The third and final megafire, the Airport Fire, wiped out more than 8 900 hectares. Seven people were injured.
Given the scale of the disaster, the Californian government declared a state of emergency in Los Angeles and surrounding counties on 11 September 2024.
