IATA: 2025 Aviation Safety Report

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has released its 2025 annual aviation safety report.

In 2025, the accident rate stood at 1.32 per million flights, improving on the 2024 figure of 1.42.

Out of the 51 accidents recorded, eight were fatal, resulting in 429 deaths, 394 of which occurred on board. This marks the highest death toll since 2018.

Two catastrophic events accounted for more than half of the onboard fatalities. On 29 January 2025, a mid-air collision between an airliner and a helicopter in Washington, D.C., United States, claimed 67 lives.

The second major incident of the year, the crash of an Air India aircraft on 12 June 2025, resulted in the deaths of 241 passengers and 19 additional victims.
