May 2014 Tunis Re has announced in its financial communication its plans to increase its capital by one-third (25 million TND), to 100 million TND (61.7 million USD).
According to Lamia Ben Mahmoud, CEO of Tunis Re, this capital increase is not synonymous with need of funds. Tunisian reinsurer would instead be looking for a partner of choice. It would allow both the improvement of credit's rating of the company and support in bad times.
L. Ben Mahmoud said that "the first requirement is that the strategic partner comes from a country rated higher than Tunisia."
