The 2009 profits, that is, 1.3 billion KES (17.9 million USD) are decreasing in comparison with those of 1.4 billion KES (19.5 million USD) posted in 2008. The 2009 results have been affected by the increase of claims especially those related to elections and to the impact of piracy. Kenya Re has embarked on an expansion phase in Africa and in Asia where it is present today in respectively 23 and 11 countries.
