Pilot project of old-age insurance in rural areas

The Chinese vice-minister in charge of human resources and social security has confirmed the adoption in principle of the basic headlines of a pilot project designed to introduce a new old-age insurance system. Tested out in only one region, but extended to others in case it succeeds, this system will allow the inhabitants of rural areas over 60 to benefit from retirement pensions.
Pensions will be subsidized by public funds. After the establishment of rural medical cooperatives and the suppression of agricultural tax, this project now stands among a set of primary key actions designed for the rural populations.
