Investments in insurtechs reached 1.41 billion USD in the second quarter of 2019

AssurtechThe insurtech companies are growing. Investments in startups have boosted to reach 1.41 billion USD in the second quarter of 2019. This is the second highest amount ever invested in insurtechs after the 1.865 billion USD of Q2 2015.

In terms of number, 69 transactions were completed, 29 of which in the United States (42%), 11 in the United Kingdom (16%), 6 in China (9%) and 4 in France. For its part, Lebanon recorded its first investment in an insurtech.

Four startups have raised funds that exceed 100 million USD:

  • Lemonade: 300 million USD
  • Collective Health: 205 million USD
  • PolicyBazaar: 152 million USD
  • Shuidi Huzhu: 145 million USD

Insurers are among the largest investors in insurtechs. For instance, Allianz is investing 75 million USD in the online investment management platform Wealthsimple while China Pacific Insurance, is investing 74 million USD in More Health, an online health management company.
