Floods would cost roughly 5.6 billion USD

The first toll regarding the floods that have washed Thailand in recent weeks refers to approximately 5.6 billion USD in damages. Agriculture, micro-informatics and the automobile industry are the hardest-hit. Corporations like Toshiba and Western Digital decided to halt production, while car manufacturers Ford, Toyota, Honda and Isuzu stopped assembly plants.
Insured losses have not yet been estimated but insurers’ association has already unveiled the sums of 672 million USD just for the highly industrialized Ayutthaya province. Out of the country’s 77 provinces, 61 have been affected by the floods and 427 people lost their lives.
