A tourist boat carrying 49 people capsized in Halong Bay, one of Vietnam’s most popular travel destinations, on 19 July 2025.
The vessel, named "Wonder Sea", had 46 passengers and three Vietnamese crew members on board when it sank during a sudden storm marked by high winds and torrential rain.
The provisional death toll stands at 38. Rescue operations are still underway to find the missing persons.
Most of the passengers were families from Hanoi, the Vietnamese capital, on a sightseeing cruise through Halong Bay, renowned for its turquoise waters and limestone islands draped in tropical forest.
