Natural catastrophes cost 125 billion USD in 2013

A month earlier, in December 2013, Swiss Re already announced an amount of 130 billion USD for such events, a figure below the average estimates of the last ten years. In 2012, the cost of these catastrophes amounted to 196 billion USD.
In 2013, natural events have claimed the lives of nearly 25 000 people, with typhoon Haiyan alone accounting for 7000 deaths.
