Northern Morocco has experienced weeks of heavy rainfall, resulting in historic flooding.
According to a report published on 12 February 2026, 110 000 hectares of agricultural land were submerged, and 188 000 people were evacuated or displaced.
In response, the Moroccan government declared the storms a “catastrophic event” and designated the four most affected provinces, namely Larache, Kenitra, Sidi Kacem, and Sidi Slimane, as “disaster areas.”
A comprehensive aid and support program was launched with a total budget of 3 billion MAD (325.2 million USD) for disaster victims. The amount was allocated as follows:
- 775 million MAD (84 million USD) for rehousing and rehabilitation
- 225 million MAD (24.4 million USD) for aid in kind and emergency response support
- 300 million MAD (32.5 million USD) for farmers and livestock owners
- 1.7 billion MAD (184.3 million USD) for infrastructure rehabilitation
