Insurance hardly contributes to the economy

The various placements made by insurers account for only 2% of the GDP. The 25 companies in the market have posted a turnover of 118 billion FCFA (263 million USD) in 2009. Assets totalling 195 billion FCFA (434 million USD) are mainly made up of government bonds at 35%, cash at 34% and real estate at 20%.
