Concern over uninsured cars in India

According to the General Insurance Council Of India (GIC), nearly 60% of Indian drivers have no motor insurance covers. Out of the 190 million vehicles (cars, motorcycles, ...) registered in the territory, only 82.6 million are insured.

This scourge is all the more alarming as motor losses are very high in the country. In 2015, the GIC reported 500 000 accidents on the Indian roads.
